Traction/Decompression Therapy
Lumbar & Cervical
Have you said to yourself, “If someone could just pull my neck or back and stretch me out my pain would feel better?” Come on in. I can do that. With state-of-the-art equipment Mees Physical Therapy, LLC offers lumbar and cervical traction.
Traction, otherwise known as decompression can reduce nerve irritation, relax soft tissue including muscles and tendons, and reduce disc compression. All of these lead to improved function and pain reduction.
What you can expect.
All you need to do is relax. Upon treatment, you will be placed on the traction table and I will place specialized “belts” around your waist and torso for lumbar or back traction. Cervical traction your head is placed on a specialized plate. With either traction/decompression technique the belts or plate is then hooked to a machine set to your specialized specifications. The physical therapist will be in the room with you at all times, especially during the first couple of treatments.
An expected time to be on traction is anywhere from 10 to 25 minutes depending on your diagnosis.
Typically, you will feel minimal symptoms on the traction table. If symptoms do occur, the physical therapist will monitor this carefully and adjust accordingly. Next day soreness is to be expected especially as your progress in your traction treatment however, traction should not increase your pain beyond what you are experiencing.
